A little late on this post from a packed Wednesday here in Napa.
We started off our day by meeting with Chris and Stephen Corley at Corley Family Monticello Vineyards We bought their lot last year and winemaker Stephen says it's almost ready to be released to us. We have tasted their wines over the past several years and adore them. Plus everything they do, is done by family members. They do it all..together! A true family business for which we also love!
They treated us to a glass of their sparkling wine, and then we did a barrel tasting of their auction lot for this year. Already one of our favorites! If you love wine and Thomas Jefferson history...you'll love Monticello Vineyards, the wine, their family history, their estate and did we mention their wines!
Our next stop was at Gamble Vineyards. What a treat this was...Proprietor Tom Gamble and winemaker Jim Close and National Sales Manager Michael Kasper gave us a most educational and enjoyable tasting of the very fine and hard to get your hands on Gamble Wines!
Spending an hour with winemaker Jim Close, talking about soils and barrels was an hour of tremendous insights for us on how he and Tom Gamble approach winemaking. Their reds are of course off the chart, but we also tried their Heart Block Sauvignon Blanc...a special bottle and one that is coming home with us! We also loved Gamble, because they are dog lovers, just like us...notice the weathervane atop the winery a tribute to Cairo, a wonderful dog and spectacular bottle of wine.
We bought their auction lot a few years ago...if you'll look their vineyard map, the lot we bought came from 'Family Home.' Their neighbors make some pretty good wines too!
Gamble Family Vineyards will be on the ‘Must Visit’ when we make recommendations for our friends when they visit Napa.
